Get involved. Portland Code Camp is a community event which is entirely run by volunteers. Become part of Portland Code Camp by joining us in planning and running this event. We are looking for people to help create this vital software un-conference for the Pacific Northwest region.
The pace of innovation and change in the software industry is constantly accelerating. New technologies are continually replacing or building on top of previous technologies. That means that software professionals, like us, are always facing the challenge of keeping our knowledge and skills current, always striving to stay relevant at work and in the job market. And for those launching a career in software development, or the hobbyist with a pet project, the range of choices can be so daunting that it can be intimidating.
At Portland Code Camp you learn directly from your peers in software development. They are people who write code for a living, people who have to make the same kinds of decisions you do — about what to learn, what to use, when to use it, and on what kinds of projects. They are passionate about their code, their tools, their practices, their solutions, and they are passionate about sharing that back with the community.
We’ve heard one comment repeated many times since we began doing this in 2005, that Portland Code Camp was better than any conference they've ever attended. And for good reason. Breakout sessions start with personal experience creating software in applications that matter today. No fluff: the focus is on the code and showing how it works; not on slides or marketing. And you are making valuable connections with people and professionals in your community.
As software developers, there are many factors that constantly work to drive us apart. Our choice of platform, or language, or tool, or vendor. Whether our solutions run on the web, on the desktop, in the cloud or on a phone. Portland Code Camp aims to bring us all together, to celebrate our common interests in using software to solve problems, to expose us to new tools and techniques, to recognize the value of working across disciplines and technologies, to see new possibilities for our own practices.
